Open Climate Fix is a non-profit research lab building open-source machine learning models to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the electricity system. Their flagship solar forecasting model predicts cloud cover and solar generation with unprecedented accuracy, helping grid operators integrate more renewable energy without relying on fossil fuel backup. Already deployed with the UK National Grid, their models have reduced the need for natural gas peaking plants and are saving an estimated 100,000+ tonnes of CO2 annually. All code is open source and freely available for energy operators worldwide.
